As for free antivirus software for Mac, there used to be a standard software called Sophos in the past, but it is no longer open to the public.
So, I tried using all the free antivirus software that is often talked about on the net, so I will introduce which one is recommended.
What kind of antivirus softwares are now available for Mac?
a) Install & resident monitoring type
It is a type that installs antivirus software on Mac and monitors and removes virus intrusion in the background while using Mac.
Since it is constantly monitored, there is a disadvantage that the operation of the Mac may become slow (in some cases), but there is an advantage that virus infection can be monitored in real time.
Paid software includes “Norton” and “Virus Buster”, which are the most orthodox types.
This page introduces this “a) Install & resident monitoring type”!
b) Install & occasional scan type
This type requires the user to run the antivirus software to install it on a Mac and search for and remove viruses occasionaliy.
Compared to the “a) Install & resident monitoring type”, there is no disadvantage that the operation of the Mac is slowed down, but there is a disadvantage that it is not possible to respond quickly to virus infection.
Free software such as “Bitdefender” and “Malwarebytes” are famous.
c) Browser add-on type
It is installed as an “extension (add-on)” for Google Chrome and Firefox.
If you may load virus-infected sites, they can prevent yourself from being infected with the viruss.
But you cannot prevent the SSD / HDD in your Mac from being infected with the other viruses.
Therefore, I will not introduce this type on this page.
From here, I will introduce each software of “a) Install & resident monitoring type”.

Conclusion : Which antivirus software do I recommend you after actually using all?
Impressions after using for 3 days
It’s been a few days since you’ve used them, but what are your impressions?
I don’t like “② Sophos Home Free” anyway.
When I try to open the setting screen, the browser opens, but it takes tens of seconds (experience) until the contents are displayed, which is frustrating.
What’s more, I was asked for my email address to download and install, and I needed to log in with my email address to open the settings screen.
In addition, I was asked to email address when I downloaded the uninstall-only tool.
So I uninstalled it at the speed of light.
Then, what about the remaining three?
I don’t like “① Avira” too.
Because I installed it in my 2015 MacBook, but it took 24 hours for the first full scan.
The CPU of this MacBook is outdated Core 2 Duo, but it’s all too slow.
Does that mean that the remaining “③ Avast” or “④ AVG” was good?
Yeah, both were just as good.
Suffice it to say, “④ AVG” was a little lighter to operate, and “③ Avast” is multilingual, so there are advantages and disadvantages.
So the conclusion so far is “③ Avast” or “④ AVG”.
For the time being, let’s continue to use “③ Avast” and “④ AVG” as the main, and then continue to use “① Avira” as a wait-and-see.
So let’s see what’s going on and add anything if anything happens.
