I introduce you know-how articles on using the clipboard on Mac.
Basics of usage, troubleshooting, recommended application introduction, etc.
In addition to the normal clipboard, I will also introduce a function called “Universal Clipboard” that links Apple products.
① Basic usage of Mac clipboard function
How to display / delete the contents of the clipboard and manage the history
The clipboard function of Mac is an area to temporarily save when copying and pasting (or cutting and pasting) characters, images, files, etc., and usually the contents cannot be seen.
However, in rare cases, you may want to see the contents of the clipboard, so here is the procedure.
In addition, I will introduce you in detail the following three methods with illustrations on how to erase the contents of the clipboard.
- Manual erasure
- Automatic erasure using the app
- Automatic erasure using AppleScript

How to use the universal clipboard
Universal Clipboard is a feature that allows you to share the clipboard between the following Apple products:
- Software
- macOS 10.12 Sierra or later
- iOS 10 or later
- All iPadOS versions
- Hardware
- Almost all Mac Models since 2012(Detail information)
- Almost all iPhone and iPad Models since 2012(Detail information)
It’s important to note that both software and hardware must meet the requirements.
As a concrete example, for example, macOS 12 Sierra can be installed on the white polycarbonate MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) shown in the figure, but universal clipboard cannot be used because the hardware (MacBook) does not support it.

② Advanced usage of Mac clipboard function
Introduction of apps that extend the clipboard function
There are several apps that extend the clipboard function of your Mac, but here are three carefully selected apps that I found useful when I have actually used them.
With the standard clipboard function, you can save only one clipboard history, but with these apps you can extend the history to 20 for the free version and 1,000 or unlimited for the paid version.
I also introduce how to obtain each app, how to use them, and brief reviews with illustrations.
