“Sidecar” has been available since macOS 10.15 Catalina and iPad OS 13, but here’s how to find out which Macs and iPads are compatible, and a list of compatible models.
Not only does it have a compatible OS, but you can’t use “Sidecar” unless it’s a compatible model.

In the page “Use your iPad as a second display for your Mac with Sidecar” on the official website, Apple announces the compatible models of Sidecar with model.
According to it, Sidecar compatible models are listed as follows.
Sidecar requires a compatible Mac using macOS Catalina or later and a compatible iPad using iPadOS 13 or later.

- MacBook Air introduced in 2018 or later

What’s the alternative to older Macs that don’t support Sidecar?
Unfortunately, if your Mac or iPad doesn’t support Sidecar, you can patch it to force it to support Sidecar, or use an app with similar functionality.

How to find Mac Sidecar compatible models
There are 2 ways to check
There are 2 ways to find out which Mac Sidecar is compatible with.
The “model” in ① is a name, such as written on the official Apple website.
- MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
- MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020)
On the other hand, ② “EMC” is the official certification number of electronic devices that generate radio waves and noise, such as personal computers.
“EMC” has almost one-to-one correspondence with “model”, so it is an effective method when ① cannot be used, but in rare cases “EMC” may be duplicated in multiple “models”.
Need to be careful.
As a concrete example of “EMC” duplication, the following figure shows different “models” of MacBook Air, and the common “EMC” is used.
In this case, both “models” are compatible with Sidecar, so there is no actual harm when investigating Sidecar compatible models like this time, but just put this in the corner of your head.

For method b), first check the serial number stamped on the back of the Mac or the serial number on the sticker attached to the packing box.

How to find iPad Sidecar compatible models
There is 1 way to check
Check the “Model Number” in the engraving on the back of the iPad or in the “Settings” of the running iPad.
First of all, the back of the main body is the part written as “Model A ~” as shown in the picture below.
In the example below, “A2133” is the “Model Number”.
Also, if you want to check with a running iPad, open “Settings” and then “General” – “Law-based information and authentication”, and you will see “Model A ~” as shown in the figure below. It is written.
Once you know the “Model Number” so far, check the link below to see if it supports Sidecar.
